GV Cellars focuses on Italian varietals, producing mainly Green Valley estate wines. The winery’s 30-acre vineyard grows six distinct varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah. The large property is a great venue for events and celebrations that include wine club barbecues and release parties, dog walks, and special blending sessions with winemakers. The tasting room is open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
G V Cellars first acquired its winery and vineyard in Green Valley in May of 2005. The land had been used for farming for decades prior. In 1952, Ben Volkhardt Sr., a San Franciscan sheet metal worker, decided to purchase farming land outside of the big city. He decided on an 80-acre fruit orchard accompanied by a four-acre vineyard of Alicante Bouschet grapes. The orchard was slowly replanted over the next 20 years and Volkhardt Family Vineyards was created. The land stayed in the family for three generations spanning over 50 years when G V Cellars took over.
