As it often does, the summer heat arrived early this year, turning our bright green hills a golden hue amid blazing sunshine. Step outside and you’ll feel it in the air, a playfulness in Fairfield that only comes in the summer months. It’s a season known for live music, fresh produce, the grape harvest, outdoor hikes, and water fun – and we have that all here in Fairfield!
For the Adults & Wine Lovers
Our Suisun Valley overflows with wine, olive oil, and fun this summer!
The grape harvest begins in August and you can watch the fruit come in from our vineyards and see the crush up close at Wooden Valley Winery,Vezer Family Vineyard, and G V Cellars. Suisun Valley’s annual Harvest Celebration, a free event for all ages that includes grape stomps, live music, food trucks, and wine tasting, is August 25.
Enjoy live music with Vezer Family Vineyard’s VezerStock wine & live music series features performances by tribute bands throughout the summer. You can also spend an afternoon enjoying a round of bocce ball at BackRoad Vines – the courts are open daily and are free for guests to use–or sign up for a cooking class at Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company. Il Fiorello is also one of six farms in Solano and Yolo Counties participating in a Lavender Weekend celebration June 22 and 23.
If you have children, you know they need to be near water when temperatures hit the triple digits! The city’s Aquatics Complex at Allan Witt Park includes a six-lane pool, a lazy river, two giant 30-ft pool slides, and an outside shallow play area. Summer recreational swim is seven days a week from June 10 – Aug 23, 12-4 pm. Meanwhile, the fountains at the Solano County Government Center in downtown Fairfield can be activated daily to help you and the kids cool off. It’s free to play, and the kids are welcome to wear their swimsuits.
For family fun in an enclosed (and air-conditioned!) space, check out the Jelly Belly Factory! Jelly Belly’s visitor center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm with free, self-guided tours above the factory floor offered from 9 am to 4 pm. Stop in the Jelly Belly Cafe before or after your tour and enjoy a cheeseburger or slice of pizza shaped like a jellybean!
Farms and Outdoor Adventures
Larry’s Produce and our other Suisun Valley farm stands opened in June, and the Fairfield Farmers Market and Thursdays on the Green is every Thursday from 3pm to 7pm on the county lawn downtown. They’re filled with fresh fruits and vegetables to help you prepare a perfect summer salad or barbecue.
